Sunday Bloody Sunday.

Just noticed on the Tv3/Virgin Media news at eight, that up to fifteen British soldiers will not face any charges for their role in shooting dead 14 civilians in Derry in January 1972. All the civilians were unarmed.

There was no evidence of the British soldiers being fired upon on the day and their firing on the march against internment was totally unnecessary .

At the time the massacre brought a wave of revulsion against British rule in Ireland with the British embassy in Dublin being burned to the ground.

However todays decision by the British authority’s is an attempt to cover up their crimes in the North of Ireland which they want hushed up. Relatives of those killed on Bloody Sunday are planning a appeal against the judgement.

Nearly fifty years later what does one say ? British army siding with loyalists against Nationalist protests. The apartheid orange state established against the wishes of the majority of Irish people by Lloyd George and the rest of the British cabinet. One ponders should they follow the South African model of  a Truth and Reconciliation commission which would give an amnesty to those who had committed war crimes during the troubles. No one is more opposed to this than the British government who want their collection of dirty tricks to remain secret. There will be little justice or truth until the Brits are brought to book.
